Off the Beaten Path

W Burshtan, John, (filmmaker). Kanopy (Firm) (Added Author).

Summary: This program is dedicated to places the majority of people have probably never seen before. We begin celebrating Labor Day at the Four Corners Iron Horse Motorcycle Rally in southwest Colorado, an event that was originally coordinated by former Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell. Anyone who ever read Norman Maclean's The Ranger, the Cook, and a Hole in the Sky will appreciate the segment Pack String, showing U.S. Forest Service riders packing mules to travel where vehicles can't to help manage and maintain wilderness and backcountry areas. Next we travel to Del Norte, home of astronaut and local hero Kent Rominger, whose space flights include trips on Columbia, Discovery and Endeavor. Then we meet Will Stone of Opposition Stage Line, who builds are drives Old West stagecoaches. Next Nancy Greene gives us an idea of what being a Rural Route driver means, out where it's really rural. Then Colorado Historian Tom Noel explains where great town names in Colorado derived their names
